[Arid_gardener] Question from Home-Hort WWW page

Marjorie, it sounds like a common area fungus, I believe but its name
escapes me. It begins with a small dead spot with a circle growing larger
and larger. I got rid of it in my yard by removing 4 inches of sod and
replacing it with five inches of three quarter inch granite. Aha! I have
it--Pearl Scale! It sounds like pearl scale.

There is an effective kill for the problem. Cut a small section bordering
green and dead and take it to your local established nursery. They will know
how to fix it. Most nursery employees will know what you have without the
sample but, in my humble opinion, a home owner who is not on good speaking
terms with his nursery specialist, is gardening in this desert under an
extreme handicap.

Let us know what works, Marjorie.
