[Arid_gardener] Brazilian Pepper tree topped

Today, I brought home and planted Brazillian Pepper Tree.
  The main trunk is topped off.   I always wanted a tall tree to hide the two story home in back of us.
  Does this mean I should dig up and return to Nursery.
  I have lived in northern state.  and no tree in my home state ever looked good with center trunk not going all the way up.  We called it topped.
   
  And also many cities in Fla, and northern Ca.  consider this a weed tree.  Do you have answers for these two questions.
