[Arid_gardener] dogs and lawn care

Compost is a good source of nitrogen and realtively safe
to use. Home lawns need water, nitrogen, and occasional
aeration. A healthy lawn will usually crowd out weeds;
insect pests are not a big problem in our desert southwest.

I did a Google search since I don't know the answer to your
question. It seems that fertilizer that does not contain
pesticides and herbicides is realtively safe of applied according to
package directions. Water in well and keep dogs off the lawn
for a day or two if possible.
