[Arid_gardener] Question from Home-Hort WWW page

I once cleaned a raised bed full of nutsedge by removing the soil down about
8 inches and sifting it through 1/4th inch galvanzed screen to remove all
the nuts; or corms they may be called. You will have a blade pop up here and
there for a year that you can pop out with a trowel but keep a quart spray
bottle of Round-up handy to pop it when it does. Roundup is only effective
on actively growing plants and works best for me if I give the undesirable
stand a healthy shot of fertilizer first a few days ahead of time. I have
added ammonium sulfate to Roundup with good effect

If you have ten acres of nutsedge, forget everything I've said about sifting
and use Roundup but be sure the grass is vigorously growing for an effective
kill..

I have never heard of sterilized soil but ask your nurseryman where to buy
clean soil.

The chemical that kills the weeds can have a negative effect on other
desirable vegetation, by the way if it gets into the plant vascular System.
