[Arid_gardener] soil in pot stinks

Dolly, I have no clue what that odor is but it sounds like you may have accidently potted up a neighbor's cat or one or more of them may have used these pots for their toilette.
I would find a flat space, dump the contents and rake the mass around to see what is rotting there. It may just be soured soil but that blind speculation may be wrong.
Let it air out and make an assessment later, if the foul aroma has dissapated, whether or not to dump the soil or keep it. If you decide to keep it, think of adding some course sand or perlite to improve aeration and drainage. If disclosure is fit for public consumption, Dolly, let us know what you find or how you finally resolve the problem so that we all might learn from the experience.

I have several plants in pots that have a foul smell. Do I have to empty the soil out to get rid of the foul odor?
