Our acacia, which is 5 years old, has 5-6 bored holes in the trunk and the largest upper branch, which has lost its leaves. The holes are 1/4 inch and oval. The trunk bark has come loose in many areas.  There is no sap.  I can't see the insects.   I sprayed the tree this morning with Permethrin, giving the tree a good dripping spray.  Is there anything else I should do and how often do I spray?  If this is a lost cause, please let me know.  I am afraid these insects will damage my other shade trees which I have had for many years.  Thank you for your time and response.
