[Arid_gardener] should I cut down my African Sumac tree?

This is a full grown tree that is shedding leaves and berries so profusely that I am having it cut down on Sunday.  I am having second thoughts as I love and cherish trees in this desert environment of ours.  It is at one end of an irrigated lawn with a fairly large bricked in patio between the tree and the irrigated grass.  I'm told spraying is not that effective.  Can you offer any advice that might help me?  Thank you!
