The containers also need to be protected from the direct summer sun else the
roots get too hot.

If you use clay pots, line the inside with plastic so they don't dry out too
rapidly.  Probably not a problem for you if have wooden planters.

Depending on the porosity of your potting soil may need to water daily in
hot weather.  This leaches out fertilizer so you will also need to fertilize
more frequently.

In my experience the yield and size of vegetable produce is much less in
containers but flowers are often as good or better than planting directly in
the soil.
