Mr. Nelson -
I am assuming that you mean "creosote bush", the one with the oily-smelling leaves.
If so, this is a plant that is native to Arizona deserts and can be planted right in the
ground - no amendment needed. Early watering should be frequent - start with every
2 days for the first week, every 3 days the second, and so on, increasing the interval.
This will get the roots going in the new soil. By the time the next monsoon comes you
should be able to ignore it.
The usual warning with creosote bush is that it is a very slow-growing plant. However,
I planted two in our yard with the same care as above and they are now over 10 feet
tall after three years... We have had good luck with plants from the Arboretum too.
