          Best mail order source IMO is Filaree Farms in Washington State,

Not only do they grow many varieties but also have lots of good information
about garlic at the web site.
          Territorial Seed Company at
http://www.territorial-seed.com/stores/1/Garlic_Bulbs_C11.cfm
is also pretty good but I believe they get their garlic from Filaree.

Garlic planting season is  over with in most of the US but some companies
will still ship in early October.

I also planted some garlic last year from Sprouts' produce section and the
resulting bulbs were bigger than the ones I had planted.
