[Arid_gardener] fall squash

Although I keep trying, I've never been successful with any type of squash here in Tucson. Now I'm in a new house, instead of container gardening, and I'm wondering if there's any chance that I might be able to still get some zucchini and spaghetti squash to produce this fall. The spaghetti squash was started from seed indoors and is currently about 5 inches tall. I've amended some places for gardening at this new house; if it's not just plain stupid to try squash this late, what exposure & soil type would give me the best chance of success?
Thanks so much,
Heather
