I have two purple heart plants in my front yard that were doing well, then suddenly looked like acid was poured on them.  The leaves and stalks were eaten away and turned brown and papery.  Have I got a parasite, or has someone's dog destroyed it by using it as a toilet?  They have attempted to come back, with the same results.  By the way, the purple heart plant in my courtyard is doing just fine.
