[Arid_gardener] Mediterranean Fan Palm Trunk growing to wide

 3 years growth and my Mediterranean Fan Palm is 6 feet tall.  I NEED IDEAS ON KEEPING  trunk skinny?.    If tree trunk is shaded with shade cloths, will it 
  grow tall and less wide.  Trees in a dark forest grow tall and skinny.   The neighbor  and my common brick wall is 6 inches from  widest part of TREE trunk.  I AM FRIGHTENED TREE WILL PUSH wall over.  Fan palms are quite hefty at base.  thank you.
