Hello Todd,
While muriatic acid can be used to temporarily lower soil pH in small 
areas, its must be used with caution because of the physical damage 
the acid can cause to you or the plant. I am referring you to a web 
site that discusses using acid on Queen palms. Here is the link; 
http://www.pacificpalms.com/QueenHth01.htm  .  Because the use of 
muriatic acid for soil pH reduction is not an 'approved method for 
use' by the University of Arizona, Master Gardener Volunteers cannot 
recommend this process to homeowners. You may try other products on 
the market to temporarily reduce soil pH such as sulphur products or 
products specifically labeled to acidify soils.
