[Arid_gardener] Crown of Thorns

Is it possible your potted crown of thorns is root bound and unable to store any water? Is it clay pot that can soak up a lot of heat in direct sun and hold it, cooking the feeder roots--sort of. Can you paint the pot with white latex to reflect the direct sun, or, set it in a cardboard box or use any strategy you can contrive to restrict sun from the pot while keeping in mind that the foliage must have a certain amount of light. A spot that gets full morning sun and afternoon shade, as you are doing, works for many sensitive plants; wrapping a piece of burlap around the pot is another strategy. Be sure the plant is not root bound with water channelling along the pot wall leaving the interior bone dry.
Without the symptoms, this is all guesswork but may let in a little light. I have never grown this species but some factors are standard for most plants in the home landscape.
The plants in the ground sound like they may be suffering a bit of culture shock often expected when moving plants from an idealistic spot in a nursery to the cruel real world with full exposure.

Others may disagree with me but I have never been able to grow my crown of thorns in full sun, or even fully outside. Maybe it is because mine is potted but in the hottest part of summer we place it in an area where it only gets direct sun for about an hour and is shaded the rest of the time and have to bring it in during the winter or it dies because of the cold.

I just planted 2 of these plants in full sun because the nursery said they would take full sun, and now the leaves are turning brown and dying. Should I cover them with sun screen? What else can I do for them?
