[Arid_gardener] Palo Verde Tree

Hi Donald,
It's difficult to say for certain what may be causing the damage to your
tree, but one thing does jump right out. It sounds like your Palo Verde
tree may well be suffering from too much water. As a Sonoran Desert native
and fully desert-adapted tree, the Palo Verde requires very little water.
Every-day watering may well be killing the tree.
As with any desert-adapted tree, your goal is to water it very infrequently,
but deeply. Even during the height of Summer, I would likely water a Palo
Verde every two to three weeks, at the most. In the cooler months, I would
probably not water it at all. Many Palo Verdes aren't watered at all once
they're established and manage to grow fairly well on their own. You'll
also find that they don't ever need fertilizer.
>From what you describe, it sounds like your tree is unlikely to recover and
regrow. While I hesitate to recommend taking out a tree that I haven't
seen, it sounds like you may be best served to replace it with a new tree,
and then begin a regimen of infrequent but deep watering.
I hope this helps,
Tyler

I have a Palo Verdetree in my front yard. I was planted in Sept.2006. It
stands approx: 10ft. tall. It is watered every day. irrigation system.
Approx: a month ago it looks like its dead. All brown except, for part of
the lower trunk. The green area is about 6" from the base. I have put a
little fertilizer last year, late fall, Moon dust, not alot. Other trees in
my community seem to be green and healthy. Any suggestions would be great.
Or should I prune it back hoping it will jump start it back to life.
