I am not aware that it is so difficult to grow fruit trees if you grow
adapted varieties as listed at
http://cals.arizona.edu/pubs/garden/az1269/
and
http://cals.arizona.edu/pubs/garden/az1001.pdf
and follow the recommended planting and growing instructions.

The local nurseries all carry pretty much the same trees except that the
nurseries attached to the do-it-yourself home supply stores will also stock
trees and bushes that are better adapted to the states where they are
headquartered.

If you are new to the valley, there is a wealth of gardening information at
the cooperative extension website.  Just go to their portal at

and follow the links.
