I planted a Lysilloma last year, a discount tree from a reputable nursery with evidence of cold splitting the bark at the base. I wrapped the tree in hopes it would help during the year to keep bacteria, insects and possibly slow down the split. Leaves on the tree today (youngest leaves) are brown, I unwrapped the tree and the bark is split with the inner part of the tree bulging but looking hard and free of pests or bacteria. What else can I do for this tree to try to save it. Would heavy fertilizing help for nutrients? Thx.
