Be sure all open wounds are well scabed over in a shady spot before potting 
in quick draining soil, cactus mix best, to avoid rot that otherwise will 
surely set in. New roots emerge only from callus. Transplant when rooted. 
New soil must have rapid drainage and much air space as in gravel or pumace. 
Irrigate with a weak fertilizer mix until in permanent soil.
