[Arid_gardener] African Daisy

Hi Erik,
Yes, African Daisies, also called Cape Marigold -- I generally call them
Cape Marigold because there are other common flowers called African Daisies.
The botanical name is Dimorphotheca aurantiaca or Dimorphotheca sinuata
(synonymous).
It spreads readily (have seen them in new and interesting places this
Spring), and though I don't think it is legally classified as invasive or
noxious, it can out-compete natives.
Not that you asked, but given a choice, I would rather favor Mexican Gold
Poppy (Eschscholzia californica ssp. mexicana), Desert Marigold (Baileya
multiradiata), and Golden Dyssodia (Dyssodia pentachaeta), just to mention
the yellows and oranges among the scads of native wildflowers.
Hope this helps,
Tyler

What is the botanical name of the prolific orange and yellow flowers
blooming everywhere in March 2008? African daisies?
