Assuming you do not want to resort to nonseelctive chemical insecticides,
there are a number of garlic, pepper and citrus rind sprays you could try..
For some examples, Katherine suggests

Subject: [Arid_gardener] ants
I dug a trench just outside my vegetable garden fence where I had planned to
plant marigolds, but ants now use the as a runway with their hole in the
ground at the beginning of the trench. Ants now traverse my garden and
return to their home carrying things. At the same time I've noticed for the
first time, holes in my leafy greens. I think the ants are black ants.
What should I do?
Thanks. drjean at cox.net
