Most nurseries will tell you that container-grown trees can be planted
successfully at any time.  But there is a better chance of success if a tee
is planted during its dormant period or, in some cases, just when the new
growth begins.  Mesquites break dormancy around mid March.  Because of the
long tap roots it doesn't transplant very well and needs to be carefully
cared for when it is still young.  For U of A recommendations, see
