HELEN S. SCHAEFER SCHOLARSHIP AVAILABLE FOR A WOMAN IN SCIENCE OR
MATHEMATICS

The Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Program of The Department of
Women's Studies and the Southwest Institute of Research on Women (SIROW) at
the University of Arizona is accepting applications for a scholarship for
the 2005-2006 school year.

The Helen S. Schaefer Scholarship for women in Science or Mathematics will
award one scholarship for $500 based on the following criteria.

The Scholarship Selection Committee, which consists of Dr. Helen Schaefer, a
member of the WISE Advisory Board, and selected outside members, requests
the following from applicants:

1  All candidates for this scholarship are required to be female students in
good standing entering their sophomore, junior or senior years of study at
the University of Arizona with a  major in Science or Mathematics.

2.The candidate must have a grade point average of 3.5 or better.

3.Each candidate is required to submit an essay detailing her need and
career goals and submit documentation of financial need (i.e., must fill out
the Student Financial Aid Form through the UA Financial Aid Office and
submit a copy to us or a W-2 form if self-supported or from
parents/guardian).

4.The attached form (must download from website:
http://ws.web.arizona.edu/wise.html) must be included with the application
and must be completely filled out in ink and preferably  typed.

5.The award can be "renewed" but only by a new application and "competition"
against other applicants.

6.The award is only to be used for tuition and fee support.

7.The award is subject to the approval of the Office of Student Financial
Aid.  The amount of the award may vary, depending upon the determination of
the Award Committee, but will not be less than $500.

Application must be postmarked or hand-delivered by deadline.
