Background and Interests

Judith K. Brown received a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology from the University of Arizona in 1984. She received her Master's Degree in 1981 from Washington State University in Plant Pathology-Virus Vector Biology, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Horticultural Sciences, with a minor in Plant Pathology in 1979 from Texas A&M University. Here at the University of Arizona she teaches Plant Virology and Microbial Diversity.

Her research program focuses on: the diversity, evolution, ecology, and taxonomy of whitefly (genus, Begomovirus) - and leafhopper (genus, Curtovirus)-transmitted geminiviruses, emergent whitefly-transmitted viruses; the cellular, molecular, and genomics basis for virus-vector specificity; and the natural history, taxonomy, genetics, and evolution of the whitefly Bemisia tabaci species group.
