Background and Interests

Patricia Rorabaugh received a Ph.D. in Plant Sciences at Utah State University. She also has a Master's degree in Plant Physiology from San Diego State University and a Bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of California, San Diego. Here at the University of Arizona she does extension work and teaches two classes, PLS 217: Introduction to Controlled Environment Agriculture and Hydroponics and PLS 397B: Advanced Hydroponic Crop Production. Her research interest is hydroponics/controlled environment agriculture. Every year, in conjunction with the classes listed above, the students participate in an experiment relevant to the industry. Experiments have included root media trials, comparisons of grafted versus non-grafted plants and trials to test different varieties (tomatoes & peppers) not only to choose heat-tolerant varieties for use in the southwest but also as part of Fee-For-Service projects for Eurofresh, the large tomato grower in Willcox AZ.
