My research program in Ornamental Horticulture includes nursery production, and establishment and management of ornamental plants in the urban landscape. The desert environment with its fluctuating temperatures, periods of drought, and often poor soil conditions provides unique challenges for growers and landscape managers. I am interested in addressing questions of environmental stress, especially water and heat stress. My goal is to understand how some plants function under low water and high temperature stress, and how managers of plants can maximize plant performance of ornamentals in the desert environment.
