Graduate Student Travel

The School of Plant Sciencs encourages students' attendance at scientific meetings/workshops, which will benefit the student. Generally, a student’s Major Advisor is expected to provide support for students who are presenting papers/posters at a meeting.

Student Travel Grants

Student travel grants are intended to provide supplemental funds for students presenting their work at scientific meetings. Any student in the School of Plant Sciences is eligible to apply for a student travel grant. Presentations at national and international meetings will be given preference. Grants of $300.00 will be awarded on a competitive basis as determined by the GSPC. Applicants will be notified of the award within two weeks of the application due date. Students are eligible for one departmental travel grant during the course of their degree program. Applications should include the following materials:

  • Cover Letter
  • Student Travel Grant application (Student Travel Grant Form)
  • Letter of recommendation from the student's advisor or mentor
  • Most recent copy of the student's Annual Progress Report

Applications should be submitted to the Graduate Student Advisor, Forbes 319 by March 15 (summer or fall meeting) or August 15 (winter or spring meeting).
The Graduate College, in conjunction with Graduate and Professional Student Council (GPSC), also awards travel grants for graduate and professional students who are attending or presenting research at academic or professional conferences. (In cases where an applicant will not be making a presentation, the student statement and the faculty letter of recommendation, included in the travel grant application, should explicitly explain the importance of attendance for the student's professional development.) Information on these grants can be found at http://www.gpsc.arizona.edu/sections/funding/fundingSubsection/travelGrants.php.

Graduate College and School Policies
Code of Conduct for Graduate Students

Graduate students within the School of Plant Sciences must abide by all of the relevant standards and rules of the University. The student should recognize that there are general ethical standards that must be followed with respect to activities such as cheating or plagiarism. As employees, there are different standards with respect to the execution of responsibilities, including the protection of University property. For instance, the student should recognize that all research carried out under a sponsoring faculty member legally belongs to the faculty member and the University of Arizona, not to the student. Failure to abide by University or SPS guidelines can result in dismissal from the Program. If there is concern about an ethical situation, the student should consult with his/her PAC, Major Advisor, the Graduate Program Coordinator, or the SPS Director. University Code of Conduct

Code of Academic Integrity

Integrity is expected of every student in all academic work. The guiding principle of academic integrity is that a student’s submitted work must be the student’s own. Students engaging in academic dishonesty diminish their education and bring discredit to the academic community. Students shall not violate the Code of Academic Integrity and shall avoid situations likely to compromise academic integrity. Students shall observe the provisions of the Code whether or not faculty members establish special rules of academic integrity for particular classes. Failure of faculty to prevent cheating does not excuse students from compliance with the Code.
