Introduction

Despite the many trials and tribulations that have faced the Arizona cotton industry in recent years producers have continued to demonstrate their resiliency, capacity to adapt, and survive. It is rather incredible to consider the economic conditions that growers have faced over the past six to seven years. Although it has been challenging and not without many difficulties, Arizona cotton farmers have done much better than many would have predicted.

One factor that cotton growers in Arizona have been able to utilize and benefit from is new information and technology. The publication of the 2003 University of Arizona Cotton Report is intended to provide new information and technology that can contribute to the improvement of irrigated cotton production systems in Arizona and the desert Southwest.

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at the University of Arizona is proud to be a part of the agricultural community of this State and region. The efforts many scientists, student, technicians, and grower-cooperators are highlighted in this Cotton Report. The ultimate value is decided in the field.
