Youchun Li is from China. She received her Bachelor and Master degrees of Agronomy in 1984 and 1987, respectively, from the Sichuan Agricultural University, China. As a Research Associate, she worked on Genetics & Breeding of hybrid wheat in Crop Research Institute, Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences for seven years and then, she became an assistant professor in the Agriculture College of the Zhanjiang Marine University. These working experiences gave her incentive to pursue a Ph. D degree in the Institute of Evolution, University of Haifa, Israel. There, she conducted research of Molecular Population Genetics with supervision of Profs. Eviatar Nevo, Abraham B. Korol, and Dr. Tzion Fahima, and received her Ph. D in 2000. Then, she set off a post-doctoral research work in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, The University of Arizona, where she, with Prof. Therese A. Markow, worked on variation of rDNA copy number and intergenic spacers in Drosophila using regular PCR and Quantitative PCR, slot dot etc. She joined the Larkins’ laboratory in Feb. 2002. Now her work is related with maize functional genomics and the investigation of cell unfolding protein response caused by zein mutants. |
