ANS 142-Introduction to Animal Racing Industry

(2 Units) An overview of the history, terminology, personnel, equipment and breeds of animals utilized in the racing industry.

ANS 340-Race Track Marketing & Media Relations

(3 Units) Concepts and issues related to the marketing and promotion of the animal racing facility and industry.

Prerequisites: AnS 142, MKTG 361, or AREC 213

ANS 342-Organization & Administration of the Racing Department

(3 Units) Basic duties and functions of the racing office and department. Personnel required and procedures utilized in developing the racing program.

ANS 345-Introduction to Animal Racing Laws & Enforcement
(3 Units) Study of the public policy and practices of regulating racing. Designed to give the student a basic understanding and foundation for future study.

ANS 433/533-Advanced Animal Racing Laws and Enforcement

(3 Units) Using the foundation gained in ANS 345: an in-depth study of select areas of racing regulation.

ANS 441-Racing Organizational Structure & Management

(3 Units) Organizational structure and management issues involved in the administration of the animal racing facility. Field trip.

ANS 442/542-Racing Business & Financial Management

(3 Units) Strategies and management involved in the administration of the animal racing facility. Field trip.

ANS 444-Development & Management of Racing Animals

(3 Units) Presentation of theoretical and applied managment practices in the development and marketing of racing animals in the commercial sector.

ANS 446-Human Resource Management

(3 Units) Human Resource Management for the general manager to attain a competitive advantage through the management of human resources.

ANS 497A-The Joe Hirsch Speaker Forum

(1 Unit) Guest professors from the racing industry discuss their background in racing and discuss timely topics from their area of expertise.
