Alive Poster Contest Explanation
and Purpose Science
Alive brings
together teachers, students and members of the educational community from across
the nation in pursuit of educational excellence, to quench the thirst for
knowledge and to make science come alive! This contest encourages teachers and students to
explore their creative ideas within the field of agri-science. The posters can
deal with anything within controlled environment agriculture such as
hydroponics, aquaponics or aquaculture. The posters
can represent the work of individuals or teams and can be completed any time
during the year 2003. Participants
will have developed their own projects and clearly and creatively present them
as posters. Posters may not include
systems or hardware. Registration
in the Science Alive 2004 conference is recommended though it is not a
prerequisite. All entrants will
have the opportunity to compete for prizes in the poster contest.
All entrants will receive a certificate of participation and the winners
will be announced at the concluding banquet of Science Alive 2004. Awards Posters will
be grouped in divisions according to grade level of the entrants. Cash prize
amounts will be announced at a later date. Conference

poster to the exhibit hall of the hotel at the set-up time published at the
conference. Non-Conference

included in the contest but must be sent directly to the Radisson Hotel and
received there between May 1-15, 2004. These

where the conference is held. Follow
the instructions for “Non-Conference Attendee Entrants (above) except

in its field, as well as how thorough it is.
Science Alive conference attendees have the opportunity to present
their posters to the judges, who encourage individuals to speak freely and
confidently about their work. They
are not interested in memorized speeches – they simply want to talk about the
poster to see if the participant has a good grasp of the content included on the
poster. A scorecard will be used by
the judges of the competition. Categories
and associated point values are: Content: Educational validity of poster
project—15 points; Grade Level Appropriateness—15 points; Clear and Concise

Contest encourages teachers and students to explore their creative ideas within
the field of agri-science. The posters can deal with anything within controlled

fascinating technology. A
student excited about hydroponics, aquaponics and aquaculture could be your
neighbor, your customer or your own son or daughter.
Please encourage anyone you know who is eligible for the Science Alive

contribute to this effort. The
amount is up to you. All
contributions will be greatly appreciated.
