Projects in the group integrate macroscopic (batch,column, microcosm and bioreactor), microscopic (SEM and TEM) and spectroscopic (XAS, FTIR, Mössbauer) analyses to characterize biogeochemical processes in both field and laboratory systems.

Projects currently underway in the laboratory include:

• Coupling sorption to soil weathering during reactive transport: Impacts of mineral transformation and sorbate aging on contaminant speciation and mobility



• Phytostabilization of mine tailings in the Southwestern US: Plant-soil-microbe interactions and metal speciation dynamics



• Influence of soluble organic matter on Cryptosporidium oocyst mobility in variable charge soils



• Sorption and mobility of pharmaceutical compounds in soils irrigated with treated wastewater



• Soil biogeochemistry of the Hawaiian time-climate matrix



• Aluminum control of organic carbon cycling in temperate forest ecosystems
