SWES 397a
The Preceptor Program

Soil, Water and Environmental Science Department

Welcome to the preceptor homepage!  The purpose of this page is to help answer any questions that you may have about the course or about teaching related issues. The SWES 397a course is a relatively new approach to help aid in the learning process.  It has been noted that it can sometimes be difficult for students to relate to the professor.  This is where preceptors come in and provide a medium for the students to feel more comfortable about the subject matter being presented.

The preceptor program is for everyone.  (Note that it can count as part of your communication requirement if approved by your advisor.)  It benefits the students and makes the professor's life a little easier.  The most important thing that one will take from this course is the ability to communicate with people on a common ground, our environment. No matter where a student ends up, this teaching experience will benefit them in the years to come.  Are you willing to give it a try?
