We share our lab facilities and research infrastructure with Dr. Marcel Schaap's research group and are currently joining forces with Dr. Craig Rasmussen's pedology group to establish a new Center for Environmental Physics and Mineralogy (CEPM). The center will provide characterization services to other research groups, and private and public entities, and support our own research projects.

We are well furnished with state-of-the-art equipment for porous media characterization, column studies, and sensor calibration. Current equipment includes a fully automated permeameter system, Decagon
WP4-T Dewpoint Potentiameters, Tempe cells, pressure plate devices, vacuum chambers, vacuum pumps and controllers, and tensiometers for Soil Water Characteristic (SWC) and permeability measurements.

Additional equipment includes a Beckman Coulter SA 3100 Gas Adsorption Surface Area Analyzer, a Beckman Coulter LS 13 320 Laser Diffraction Particle Size Analyzer, a computer-controlled wet-sieving system, and various sensors and loggers for field moisture, salinity and temperature measurements.

Machining facilities within our laboratories including metal/plastic lathe, band saw, drill press, table saw, and extensive hand tools, facilitate fabrication of instrumentation and accessories at substantial cost savings, as well as provide flexibility and rapid response to specific research requirements.

For larger machining projects, we have access to three highly specialized machine shops at the UA Campus, the UA Agricultural Center, and the UA Environmental Research Laboratory (ERL). A Ford T-100 Pickup Truck is available for field measurement campaigns.

Available computer equipment includes a high capacity file server for data storage and routine backups and a high-powered workstation (2 quad-core processors; 16GB RAM) with Linux and Windows XP 64-bit operating systems for computational demanding modeling tasks.
