Walker Basin (S) Allotment
1968 Annual Grazing Plan
This plan sets forth the management practices, range improvement maintenance,
and range improvement construction, that were agreed upon during the recent discussion.
This plan will be adhered to unless it becomes necessary, for various reasons,
to make changes. Changes may be made only after agreement between the Permittee
and District Ranger has been reached.
NUMBERS
A total of four hundred and ninety head will be permitted on the Walker Basin
(S) Allotment. In addition, six free use horses are permitted (Bill Sullivan),
and ten horses are permitted on a private land permit, G3(b)(4), (V-V Cattle Co.
- Bruce Brockett). All horses grazed under the private land permit must adhere
to the conditions as set forth by the permit and this plan.
MANAGEMENT
Management during 1968 will provide for the following deferment and/or rest:
Unit Dates Growing Season
Snake Ridge 7/1 - 9/1 (Summer)
Horse Knoll 6/1 - 9/1 (Spring & Summer)
Pine 7/1 - 8/15 (1st half of Summer)
Heifer Pasture 7/15 - 9/1 (2nd half of Summer)
Steer Pasture 6/1 - 7/1 (Spring)
To provide the above rest the stock will be handled as follows during 1968:
1. 6/1 Herd to enter Snake Ridge Unit
2. 6/15 Herd will be permitted to drift into the Heifer Pasture.
3. 7/1 Herd will be permitted to drift into the Steer Pasture.
7/1 All livestock will be removed from the Snake Ridge Unit.
4. 8/15 Herd will be permitted to enter the Pine Unit.
5. 9/15 Herd will return to the Walker Basin (W) via the Horse Knoll Unit.
RANGE IMPROVEMENT
A. The following range improvement work will be accomplished depending upon
the availability of construction funds:
1. Construct Wildhorse Tank
(Forest Service funds - $700)
2. Install metal gate - Bow Ribbon area
(Forest Service - gate; Permittee to install )
B. Perform routine maintenance on all improvements (Permittee expense).
Improvements needing special attention are:
1. Heavy maintenance on Allotment Boundary fence - Steer Pasture and
Brush Pasture (Buckhorn) - Fence #41.
GENERAL MANAGEMENT TOOLS
Salt will be used as an additional distribution tool. It will be placed on
feed and not on waters. Any exceptions to this will be resolved on the ground
by the Permittee and District Ranger.
Range riding will be accomplished as necessary to insure that proper and adequate
distribution is maintained at all times.
FIRE
The permittee is aware of his fire control responsibilities as outlined in
the ten year permit and will abide by all stipulations and clauses therein.
