There may not be sufficient water to carry the herd through the proposed period of use in the Snake Ridge or Horse Knoll units. Should this happen, it will be mutually decided between the District Ranger and the permittee as to where and when the next move will be.

Range Improvements

  1. Fence reconstruction from FH-3 to Turkey Park. Forest Service contribution - materials for two miles of fence, permittee to supply labor.
  2. Sugarloaf waterlot. Forest Service to provide materials if available.
  3. Install a creaser flat cattleguard. Forest Service to provide materials and cat, permittee to aid in labor.
  4. All fences should be checked for maintenance needs and repairs made as necessary. The permittee is reminded of his responsibility to repair the fences listed in his letter of January 12, 1972. This work must be done before the livestock will be allowed to enter the Allotment this summer.

General Management Practices

Salt will be used to improve livestock distribution. Salt will not be placed closer than one-quarter mile from water unless specified in writing by the District Ranger.

Mesa tank and Turkey Draw tank should have the waterlots closed when the cattle are in the Horse Knoll unit to avoid excessive livestock congregation in these areas. These tanks may be opened later in the season to provide a reasonable amount of use in those areas. The Forest Service will need an accurate accounting by dates and numbers of livestock entering and leaving each pasture. This information is necessary for continuing our production utilization studies.

If you desire to spray your cattle on the National Forest you must submit the name of the chemical proposed for use to the District Ranger. He will approve or disapprove your request based upon a list of approved chemicals which he has.
