Annual Grazing Plan 1978 Winter AllotmentCoconino National Forest March 2, 1978 Mr. William Sullivan Dear Bill: This letter will serve as your annual plait of grazing for 1978 as per our discussion at the time of taking your grazing application. The following livestock numbers, and seasons of use, are permitted on the Walker Basin (W) Allotment in 1979:
In 1978, managementt on the allotment will be as follows: 1. Twin Buttes, Cedar Flat, and Walker Rim Units: Cattle were equally divided between the Twin-Buttes and Ceder Flat Units when they were placed on the District in November. The Walker Rim Unit was dry so we decided to skip this unit and stay on top until snow forced cattle to lower country. Since the weather has changed we decided b keep all the cattle in the Walker Rim and.Cedar Flat Units, where .they now are, until April 20. Cattle in the Cedar Flat Unit will be encouraged to use the north side through salting and herding. By April 20 all cattle should be in the Twin Buttes Unit. Cattle will be encouraged to use the north end of this unit. The upper end of the shipping lane may also be used. Cattle returning in November will be placed in the Twin Buttes Unit until 12/15. However, 12/1 half the herd will be moved to Cedar Flat. By 12/15 Twin Buttes should be clean with 1/3 of the herd in Cedar Flat, 1/3 in the shipping lane, and the remaining 1/3 in Walker Creek where they may remain through 12/31. 2. Russel and Wickiup Units: These units will be rested this year. 3. Shipping Lane: To be used in conjunction with moving livestock and Twin Buttes Unit. 4. Bull Pasture: To be used by bulls until placed with cows in the spring. 5. Horse Pasture: Seven head of horses will be permitted to graze 1/1 to 3/31 and 11/1 to 12/31. As you know, your permit mistakenly says 1/1 to 5/31. As always, we advise caution with fire. Should fire restrictions become necessary we will advise you. As stated in your permit, salt should be placed at least 1/4 mile from water to encourage distribution. However, salt may be placed on the new tanks built last year and on Utopia Tank to help hold cattle in this area. All fences which are your responsibility will be maintained prior to moving cat8 e. If you have any questions feel free to contact us. Sincerely, ROBERT B. GILLIES JR.
