Annual Grazing Plan 1986 Walker Basin (S) Allotment

This Plan outlines the range management and improvement work to be accomplished during the 1986 grazing season.

Permitted Numbers and Grazing Schedule

The Permittee is permitted to graze 425 cattle from 6/1 - 10/31 on the Walker Basin Allotment. In addition, the Permittee is authorized to graze 48 head of cattle under private land permits. All cattle will be grazed as a single herd under the following grazing schedule:

Horse Knoll Unit 6/1 - 7/15

Pine Unit 7/16 - 8/31

Sullivan Unit 9/1 - 10/15

Horse Knoll Unit 10/16 - 10/31

The grazing schedule is flexible and may be altered if range inspections indicated a need to lengthen or shorten the time in any unit. Entry and exit dates may vary 5 days from the scheduled dates.

Allotment Inspections and Production-Utilization Surveys

The Permittee and District Range Staff will inspect selected pastures on a periodic basis. Specific dates will be mutually agreed upon at a later date.

Production-utilization studies will be conducted on the Walker Basin Allotment after the cattle are removed from each specific unit. The Permittee is to notify the District within two days after each move is complete. The Permittee is requested to assist in these studies.

Range Improvement Maintenance

Annual maintenance will be required on all fences and other improvements assigned to you. All fences must be checked prior to entering the allotment.

Range Improvement Construction

The Permittee and the Forest Service will cooperate in the reconstruction of three miles of Fence #1381. The Forest Service will furnish the materials and the Permittee will provide the labor. The Forest Service will also locate and construct a minimum of 5 roadside tanks.

Salting and Livestock Distribution

In order to obtain the best possible livestock distribution and grazing utilization, the following salting practices will be followed:

1. Locate salt in areas of good feed, preferably on ridges and at least one-quarter mile from water.
2. Move salt periodically, remove salt when grazing utilization approximates 35%.
3. Ride allotment frequently to locate areas of good feed. Move salt to these areas and "show" the cattle where it is.
4. Avoid placing salt in bottoms and other areas that have a history of overuse.
5. Salt must be relocated with every salt placement.

Fire

Fire protection is the responsibility of every grazing Permittee. Protection will include taking all reasonable precautions to prevent, make diligent efforts to suppress and reporting promptly all fires on or endangering such land and property covered under your term permit.
