NAWT Inspection Training & Certification Workshop
As of December 1, 2005, this workshop is recognized by ADEQ as "a course recognized by the Department as sufficiently covering the information specified in this Section [R18-9-A316 - Transfer of Ownership Inspection for Onsite Wastewater Treatment Facility]." In other words, this course meets the ADEQ requirement of providing a training/education certificate for those people participating in the Transfere of Property Inspection program.

This workshop also qualifies for 16 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) for Arizona Wastewater Treatment Operators and 13.5 Continuing Education Units for Arizona Registered Sanitarians.

Starting in 2006, this workshop is also a manditory prerequisite for the Soil and Site Evaluation for Onsite Wastewater Treatment class and the Introduction to Design of Onsite Wastewater Treatment in Arizona class.

Soil & Site Evaluation for Onsite Wastewater Treatment
Starting with the January 2005 Parker, Arizona class, ADEQ recognizes the University of Arizona's Soil & Site Evaluation for Onsite Wastewater Treatment course that meets part 4 of the qualifications for becoming a site investigator [R18-9-A310(H)(4)].

This workshop qualifies for 16 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) for Arizona Wastewater Treatment Operators and 14.4 Continuing Education Units for Arizona Registered Sanitarians. This course also meets the NAWT Certification Continuing Education requirements (see section below).

Please note: You must have taken the prerequisite course prior to taking this course. The prerequisite course is the NAWT Inspection Training & Certification course. You do not have to be current with your NAWT certification, you just need to have taken the course at one time.

Starting in 2006, this workshop is also a manditory prerequisite for the Introduction to Design of Onsite Wastewater Treatment in Arizona class.

NAWT Continuing Education Information
Once you attend your first National Association of Wastewater Transporters (NAWT) Inspection Training & Certification course, as part of the criteria to be eligible to be an inspector for the Arizona Transfer of Ownership program, ADEQ wants you to maintain your certification. This is done by continuing education. NAWT is the ADEQ-recognized certifying agent for the Transfer of Ownership Inspection Program for the State. Therefore, Arizona abides by the NAWT Continuing Education policies and procedures [ http://www.nawt.org/training/education.shtml].

In essence, NAWT certification is granted for two years from the date of your original certification training. At the time of the anniversary date, you are required to show that you have met the continuing education requirement during the two-year period. There are many ways to fulfill the continuing education requirement (to obtain 8 hours of training related to onsite system inspection, design, operation and maintenance, soil and site evaluation, and installation). Please refer the NAWT Continuing Education web page describing their requirements and process. I have developed a Frequently Asked Questions document with Summary steps to help you better understand how to go about obtaining your Continuing Education [PDF].
