Soil Function within Watersheds

Soil plays a very important role in the hydrologic cycle, regulating the flow of water and nutrients through the system. Soil characteristics influence the rates of infiltration, runoff, and water storage. Land use practices and management actions can significantly alter soils’ capacity to perform these functions.
