Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What does 4-H cost?
The enrollment fee is $20 per youth or $2/$3 per adult leader. Families are responsible for all project expenses. All 4-H adult leaders are volunteers; they are not paid for and may not charge for their time. There may be an additional club fee for supplies.
Who are the 4-H leaders?
4-H activities are taught or supervised by adult volunteer leaders. Adults may apply to become 4-H volunteer leaders. They may be community club leaders, project leaders, assistants, or provide help with events or activities. Many leaders are parents of members but it is not required. Members in grades 6-8 may be Junior Leaders who assist an adult leader. Members in grades 8 and up may be Teen Leaders who teach projects under the supervision of an adult leader.
How do I join?
Yavapai County has 7 Community Clubs, all enrolling new members. Parents/guardians should accompany their children to the first club meeting to sign enrollment forms, pay the fees, and help their children determine which projects to take. A family may join any community club, although most join the club which meets closest to their home or school. Each club offers projects based upon its leader’s interests and abilities, so different projects will be offered in each club. If the club you join does not offer a project your child is interested in, take the lead by volunteering to teach it, or recruit someone who can. Parents are expected to take an active role in their club.
To join: select a community club to attend, complete enrollment forms and pay fees at that club’s meeting, sign up for projects, then attend that club’s meeting each month. Find out who the project leaders are and when the meetings will be held. Make sure you understand what is required or expected for the project. Try to attend all the meetings or call the leader if you will be absent. Parents, please attend with your child and offer to help.
How is information communicated to members?
The 4-H office publishes a monthly newsletter, the 4-H Clover Communicator. An online link to the current newsletter is emailed to each member and leader. Archived newsletters are also available on the Yavapai County 4-H website. Only those 4-H members and leaders who do not have internet access will receive the newsletter by US mail. Read it regularly to be informed about 4-H club, county, and state activities. 4-H Community Clubs in Yavapai County offer a wide variety of projects for members age 9-18. There are also special activities for Cloverbud members, age 5-8.
