Volunteer Projects
Master Gardener volunteer time should be educational for the public and/or Master Gardeners, or the time should support Cooperative Extension purposes and goals. You are encouraged to create your own projects. The Volunteer Projects Committee of the Master Gardener Association oversees projects that require multiple volunteers, and those volunteer opportunities are advertised so any Associate or certified Master Gardener can participate.
If you create your own volunteer project, it would be good to review it with the Cooperative Extension Director or Volunteer Coordinator to be sure it qualifies, to obtain input, and to ensure they are aware of it in advance of hours being reported. If your personal project is associated with a public place, like a school, museum, etc., it should be listed on the Volunteer Projects Log so the Extension Director and Master Gardener Association are aware of where in the community Master Gardeners are providing assistance.
There will be times when a Master Gardener comes up with an idea that will require other Master Gardeners' assistance, or when someone from the community would like to solicit Master Gardener assistance. These efforts must be approved by the Volunteer Projects Committee. Once approved, volunteers will be solicited to chair the project and to work on it.
Several reference documents are available on the Documents and Forms page.
Organization
The association is governed by four officers: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. There are also several committees, which are the backbone of the organization. See Documents and Forms for Bylaws and Committee Responsibilities.
Mentor Program
The Mentor Program is designed is support Associate Master Gardeners during their pre-certification period. Mentors will stay in contact with Associate Master Gardeners to answer questions, provide counsel on obtaining volunteer hours, and to help them network with other Master Gardeners.
