Dinosaur Gardens

What child isn't enthralled by dinosaurs? Plant a garden that would attract those creatures if they lived today - a garden without flowers, if you can imagine it! For the dinosaurs, there existed only plants in various shades of green. Flowering plants were just coming into being during the dinosaurs' last days.

You need not feel limited. There are several plants - some tropical, some cold-hardy - that you can use to emulate a dinosaur's habitat, including queen palms, asparagus ferns, junipers and pine.

Creating some large painted dinosaurs as "garden art" can also give your students a feel for what a dinosaur's world may have looked like.
