RNR 316: Natural Resources Ecology
Objective:
1. To familiarize you with the scienctific writings of the discipline
2. To permit you to explore the primary ecological literature
3. To acquaint you with scientific writing
4. To enable you to see where many of the ideas that we will cover in class have originated
5. To provide experience in critical writing
Where: The best place to find primary research articles (journal
articles that present original research) is the Science Library.
These articles will have the standard sections of a scientific paper (Introduction,
Methods, Results, Discussion, Lit Cited)
When: Reviews are DUE ON OR BEFORE:

book chapters, review papers, or magazine articles are not typically considered
primary literature.

Summary: Using complete sentences, summarize the researcher's objectives, methodology, and salient findings.
Contributions: What were your impressions of the work? Have you encountered similar ideas thus far in your 'biological career'?
How do you think this paper touches present day issues? Critique the study design, methods, and writing style. I will be looking
for your effort and substantiated opinions in this section--I do not expect a right or wrong answer.
