N. clevelandii is a systemic host for RCNMV. Necrotic local lesions or concentric rings
develops on the inoculated leaves 5~7 days after inoculation. In about one week, systemic mosaic
with occasional necrosis appears on upper uninoculated leaves. The spread of the virus in the
inoculated plants is controlled by virus-encoded proteins. A movement protein encoded by
RCNMV RNA-2
facilitates the movement of the virus from one cell to another. The capsid protein encoded by
RNA-1
appears to play an important role in the long distance spread.
