International Microarray Workshop: January 2009

 

PLANT AND ANIMAL LONG-OLIGONUCLEOTIDE
MICROARRAY WORKSHOP

January 4-9, 2009

This workshop will comprise a combination of lectures and hand-on laboratory sessions.  The participants will employ Arabidopsis, maize or rice (plant side), and human, bovine, or pig (animal side) whole genome 70-mer oligonucleotide microarrays in their laboratory work (for details of the plant arrays see: Arabidopsis, maize).  The primary goal of the workshop is obtaining optimal results using oligonucleotide-based microarrays.

 
The workshop is divided into two parts:  Part I covers wet-lab aspects of microarray target production, microarray hybridization, and scanning.  It starts with registration on Sunday, January 4, from 2-4PM, with the first formal activities at 5PM, and ends on Wednesday evening.  Part II covers data extraction, statistical analysis, and experimental design, and runs on Thursday and Friday.  The workshop ends at 5pm on Friday.

 

Note:  The number of airline connections from Tucson to San Diego on Friday evening allows workshop participants convenient access to the Plant and Animal Genome XVII Meeting (January 10-14, 2009).

 


Specific topics include:

  • Experimental design.
  • Probe preparation and microarray printing.
  • Microarray rehydration and probe immobilization.
  • Target preparation, including RNA extraction, direct and indirect labeling, and amplification techniques.
  • Microarray hybridization.
  • Array scanning and data extraction.
  • Data analysis and archiving.


Registration (Part I plus Part II) is $700, which includes costs of the microarrays and other consumable supplies that are used.  Part II registration only is $300.  Part I participants are limited to 40 on a first-come, first-serve basis. Overall participation is limited to 60 individuals.
