CALL FOR PAPERS

The Spring/Summer 2000 issue of the Arid Lands Newsletter will focus on the theme of Desert Architecture for a New Millenium. This issue, Number 47, will be published in May 2000.

Housing is one of the most basic needs of humanity, and as drylands populations continue to grow, the need for well-designed, affordable desert architecture becomes ever more acute. In the more than five years since ALN has considered this topic, what advances in architectural design and materials have been made? How are time-honored building techniques for drylands continuing to be adapted to today's needs? How can adequate housing be provided to the burgeoning cities of the world's drylands? What examples, if any, can be pointed to as excellent models of desert architecture?

Proposals for papers, comments, suggestions for possible authors, suggestions for resources (web, paper, CD-ROM etc.) to be included, etc. are welcome. Please send your suggestions to Katherine Waser, Editor, Arid Lands Newsletter.
