The ubiquitous
prickly pear
(Opuntia), native
to North America,
is common in the
Sonoran Desert.
Also an Opuntia species, this is the Santa Rita prickly pear, native to a range of
mountains on Tucson’s southern boundary.
Note that, compared with above, this cactus has short thorns.
