The Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse publication web site includes a variety of research reports on topics related to substance abuse, including information about policy, programs and recent research findings. Also included are links to other resources including state and local substance abuse resources.

Evaluation Review, Special Issue: Zero Effects of Drug Prevention Programs: Issues and Solutions, 22(1). This special issue discusses the possible limitations of so-called "no-use prevention programs." No-use prevention programs are those programs that make no distinction between substance use and abuse. The lack of sensitivity of most measurement instruments may contribute to this problem. The articles in this issue demonstrate the shortcomings of this widely used approach and offer suggestions for improvement.

Join Together is a national web site to provide information to individuals in communities who are battling substance abuse. This web site has an extraordinary variety of information regarding substance abuse including links to local and national news stories, links to recent research findings, and a variety of funding information. In addition, this site allows access to other individuals who are involved in the fight against substance abuse.

Journal of Early Adolescence: Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP): High Risk Youth Programs, 17(1). This special issue includes descriptions of evaluations of three different programs with three different populations. All three programs were intended to increase protective factors, and evaluations found some positive results in decreasing drug abuse from each one. Another article details many of the potential conflicts between program design and evaluation. The article also offers some suggestions for dealing with these issues.

The NIDA web site offers valuable information and links to current publications, funding information and meetings of individuals interested in the prevention and treatment of drug abuse.

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services http://www.samhsa.gov/
This office encompasses the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) as well as the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment and the Center for Mental Health Treatment. The web site includes information on substance abuse and mental health programming, treatment options, funding, and links to publications and press releases. This office publishes the results of the yearly National Household Survey on Drug Abuse (NHSDA).
