Home soil test kits
Home soil test kits can be purchased at home and garden stores rather inexpensively (generally less than $20). These tests usually cover N, P, K, and pH. A small sample of soil is mixed with water and an additive, and then compared with the reference color.
Laboratory soil tests
Many laboratories offer soil tests for small fees. Laboratories in Arizona performing soil, water, and plant tests can be found here.
Once you receive your results, you may need help interpreting what they mean. Colorado State University Cooperative Extension offers a guide for interpreting soil results here.
